Online study at WCS

How Does Online Study Work?

Step 1 - Access

To study online with West College Scotland you will need access to a computer with an internet connection. We are working hard to make sure all our content is accessible on mobile devices but if you are using an ipad, or other mobile device there may be some limitations to what you see on screen. When you contact us about enrolling in a course you will be asked to complete an online application and will receive details of how to join the course by email within a few days.

Step 2 - Engage and Learn

You study at a time that suits you, though do be aware that you will receive emails and reminders about due dates for assessments as most of courses have target completion dates, either for each assessment, or for the course as a whole. You will be enrolled on a course where you will find learning materials which can be either web based screens you work through containing text, audio or video content and interactive exercises, an online book or series of PDF’s. Some of our longer qualifications have workbooks which may be sent to your home address.

Step 3 - Assessment

Once you have studied the learning materials, you can then undertake the assessments for the course online.

Quiz Assessments

For our shorter courses, you take quiz style assessments in each section of the course, and are allowed 3 attempts at each assessment to gain a pass.

Written Assessments

In our qualifications, you are given two attempts at a written assessment for each module which is marked by a tutor who will feedback to you to guide you in any work that doesn’t pass on the first attempt.

Once you have passed all course assessments you have passed the course J

Step 4 - Course Evaluation

You may be asked to undertake an online course evaluation after you have completed the course. With our longer courses we may contact you during your course to evaluate how you are finding it. We use this information to improve the quality of our courses and appreciate the time you spend feeding back to us.

Step 5 - Certification

If you are undertaking our shorter courses with quiz assessments, you are able to download and print out your own certificate straight from the online course area after you undertake your course evaluation.

If you are undertaking an externally certificated course such as our NCFE courses, then you will receive a postal certificate within 6 weeks of passing the course. In some cases this may be a college certificate if we are awaiting approval visits from the awarding body, and you will receive your full certificate at the earliest possible time.
